MTC’s vision for a mobile, connected, sustainable, equitable and economically vibrant Bay Area is realized in part through our planning programs. These include:
Long-Range Planning
Plan Bay Area is the long-range plan created by MTC and the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG). Cities and counties across the region use this plan as a guide to improve our communities.
Housing
The shared staff of MTC, ABAG and the Bay Area Housing Finance Authority are working together to solve the housing crisis, so that all Bay Area residents can have an affordable home.
Land Use
Transportation planning and land use planning go hand in hand. MTC works with ABAG and local cities and counties to plan for transportation and housing projects that map to the Bay Area’s current and future needs.
Resilience
MTC’s resilience and planning efforts help protect the Bay Area from earthquakes, floods, landslides and fires — as well as prepare for climate change hazards like sea level rise, extreme storms and drought.
Transportation
MTC plays a vital role in planning, funding and coordinating the Bay Area’s transportation systems, including public transit, bridges, freeways and local roads.
