Mengo Hospital is a proud institution of the
Church of Uganda
, founded in 1897 by Dr. Sir Albert Ruskin Cook under the Church Missionary Society. As the first modern hospital in East Africa, Mengo was established with a vision of combining clinical excellence with compassionate, faith-driven care.
Today, the hospital remains a vital arm of the Church’s health ministry, officially recognized as one of its key institutions. It upholds the Church of Uganda’s mission to deliver
holistic, sustainable, and Christ-centered healthcare
, bearing witness to the healing ministry of Jesus.
Mengo Hospital also serves as a
teaching hospital for Uganda Christian University
, contributing to the formation of ethical, skilled, and spiritually grounded medical professionals. Its long-standing alignment with the Church continues to shape its values and approach to patient care, placing dignity, compassion, and service at the heart of everything it does.
