The Anderson Room is the reading room for modern music collections and contains:
The
card catalogues
(for items catalogued before 1989, not part of our online catalogues)
Computer terminals to access online catalogues.
iDiscover
includes notated music titles catalogued since 1989.
Audio-visual facilities for cassettes and CDs.
An electronic piano which can be used for playing through music in the collection (headphones can be borrowed during staffed opening hours).
Reference books (dictionaries, bibliographies, thematic catalogues, library catalogues, discographies, etc.)
Historical sets, collected editions of composers, and monuments of music (reference collection)
Some of the borrowable, printed music (classmarks M205-M259, sizes a-d).
The open access borrowable music collections are housed in the Anderson Room, on South Front 1 and Corridor, and on the South Wing 1 Corridor.
Music periodicals can be found in various locations. The best way to find what is available in print or online is through
iDiscover
. Most bound music periodicals are currently housed on South Front 6.
Music special collections, including notated music published before 1900, music manuscripts and archival materials can be consulted in the Special Collections Reading Room.
Requests for closed access items can be made in the Anderson Room during staffed opening hours or by

Readers are reminded that the Anderson Room office is closed on Saturdays. If you wish to consult non-borrowable music materials please order them by 3 pm on a Friday so that they can be transferred to the Special Collections Reading Room ready for you to use on Saturday.
