This is the local story of an engineering family that changed the world.
As well as building the world’s first tunnel through soft ground under a navigable river, the Brunels hosted the first underwater concert party here in 1827.

Well worth a visit
Fascinating.. an amazing insight into 19th century London and engineering a hidden gem with a great gift shop.
Fantastic event and helpful staff
We thoroughly enjoyed every moment, and you and the team made our night one to remember for a long time. All of the staff were so lovely and accommodating, and we could tell that you guys really went the extra mile to make our night bespoke and stress free - the reviews amongst our team are glowing.

A great little museum with interesting stuff to read and look at.
I got a personal talk about the works and tunnel as it was quite quiet.
A fantastic experience with a most informative and interesting guide who spoke to us and pointed out features in the tunnel shaft. All safe and socially distanced. Our grandsons loved the interactive display on the top floor, and also the items for sale in the little shop space! The adults loved the prices of the items!

One of the best kept secrets of Rotherhithe , a museum dedicated to the world's oldest tunnel under a river. Make sure you book a tour with the excellent in-house guide. The tunnel shaft is available for hire for functions and even for weddings.
