FERPA Release
The Center for Global Education adheres to the University’s policy regarding communication
with parents under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). FERPA affords
students certain rights with respect to their educational records, including the right
to inspect their education records, request an amendment of the records that the student
believes are inaccurate, and the right to control disclosures of their records except
to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent.
Students have the primary responsibility for keeping their parents or guardians informed
about their progress at the University, including their enrollment in study abroad,
a Travel Course, or international internship. To this end, all program-related information
and instructions will be sent directly to the student. We encourage students to share
this information with their parents or guardians.
In most instances, student educational record information may not be released without
prior written consent of the student.
If your student would like the CGE to be able to speak to you about their participation
in study abroad, the financial obligations, and FERPA protected details, we encourage
students to complete the FERPA Release Form in the Center for Global Education application
and authorize this communication. This form can be amended at any time.
Please note: Signing a FERPA release form in the Registrar’s Office or with the Business
Office does NOT cover the release of information for the Center for Global Education.
Students can request the form from our staff or complete online.
Students and their parents are encouraged to review the
University’s FERPA Policy
. Here you will find an explanation of the circumstances under which the University
will communicate with parents or guardians. Students may grant consent to disclose
information online by accessing the CGE’s Global Gateway student portal and providing
a list of names they authorize communication with about education abroad. Instructions
on accessing the Global Gateway will be sent to the e-mail address listed on the student’s
enrollment application.
