Who is this MEd program for?
Our MEd in Educational Administration students bring varied experiences, values, and philosophies from their respective school districts, promoting rich dialogue in the classroom. The majority of our students work full time as Oregon educators and attend classes at night during fall and spring semesters or during summer day sessions. The on-campus program draws from the entire Portland Metro area, while our off-campus programs serve students in Eastern and Central Oregon, as well as in district-specific cohorts in districts such as Portland, Beaverton, Hillsboro, Lake Oswego, and Tigard-Tualatin School Districts.
What can you expect as an MEd in Educational Administration student?
At Lewis & Clark, our approach to instructional leadership makes our program unique. It’s practical, inquiry-centered, and firmly rooted in best practices—you will learn how action leadership supports teachers, students, and parents.
Practicing administrators serve as adjunct faculty in the program, in addition to full-time Lewis & Clark faculty. With our small class sizes, you’ll form strong relationships with faculty as mentors in your field.
Flexible Learning with On and Off-Campus Options
As an MEd in Educational Administration With Principal License Program student, you can start at the beginning of any semester: fall, spring, or summer. You will advance through the program at your own pace—program completion depends on the number of courses taken per semester and your own timeline for finishing the requirements. Start when you are ready and finish when you are done!
Built-In Practicums and Regional Cohorts
A highlight of the administrator license program is the practicum, which gives you in-depth working experiences of leadership. Through our school-site practicum placements, you can develop the knowledge and skills necessary for successful school administration, including both leadership and management responsibilities.
Students in the master’s program can complete 18 out of the 38 required semester hours through participation in our regional cohort programs, which are available in Central Oregon and the Portland Metro area. Regional and district-affiliated cohorts increase program access by offering small, in-person, hybrid, or online courses taught by working administrators in your region that are offered in regional locations.
In my first year as an elementary principal, I have drawn from my experiences in each and every class that was part of the program. The instructors’ personal experiences, the reading and reflection, and the conversations with other educators have been invaluable as I put my beliefs into practice. I love the work I’m doing and couldn’t have been better prepared to do it.
Our Educational Administration Students in Action
Through our integrated practicum experience, our students get hands-on experience while earning program credit. Students take on true leadership responsibilities in school settings, including conducting classroom observations and providing teacher feedback, analyzing school data to inform improvement, and coordinating community engagement opportunities for their community.
How to Apply to the Program
The master’s degree in educational leadership is designed for practicing educators and/or program leaders who currently do not hold a master’s degree and who are ready to take a stand for improved learning for all students by working in leadership roles outside the classroom.
We offer rolling admissions with terms that start in September, January, and May. Our metro cohort is open to all students and the district affiliated cohort is only available to already district-affiliated professionals. Graduate level classes taken at other universities may be transferred into this program if pre-approved by the program coordinator.
