Accessibility
The Wisconsin Maritime Museum welcomes all people. We are committed to making our exhibits, programs, and collections accessible.
We offer the following for use during your visit:
Complimentary push wheelchairs
Sensory tools (fidgets, noise-reducing headphones, etc.)
Communication cards
Pre-recorded submarine tour video
Printed tour scripts in English, Spanish, and Russian
Submarine
USS
Cobia
is a designated National Historic Landmark and as such, is not accessible via mobility aids with wheels (wheelchairs, walkers, etc.). There are no ladders that guests must use during our regular tours, but there are two sets of steep stairs on
Cobia
and seven watertight doors. We have an example of these doors near the Front Desk for guests to test out before boarding the submarine. Additionally, as is the nature of a submarine, the boat can be rather tight quarters.
We do offer a pre-recorded video tour of the submarine for any guest unable to or uncomfortable with touring the submarine – just ask at the Front Desk when you arrive!
Parking
Marked accessible parking spaces are located in the west and north parking lots. There are ramps leading to the Museum’s entrance and automatic doors with push buttons at the entrance. Street parking is also available in front of the Museum along Maritime Drive. All parking is free.
Restrooms
Two all-gender restrooms are available on the lower level of the Museum. All of our restrooms are equipped with baby-sized changing tables.
Around the Museum
All public spaces within the Museum building are accessible via wheelchair, walker, wagon, or stroller. There are two elevators located within the building.
Service Animals
Service Animals required for a disability are welcome in the Museum and submarine. Emotional Support Animals (ESA), therapy animals, or pets are not allowed in the Museum building or submarine.
Handlers are welcome to leave the building and reenter as needed in order to let their Service Animal relieve themselves. We ask that handlers pick up after their Service Animals.
Admission
We are proud to be a part of the
Museums for All
program, which offers discounted admission for guests with a valid EBT, BadgerCare, FoodShare/Quest, Medicaid, and/or WIC card. This discount applies to the entire immediate family/household of the cardholder.
We also offer our Access Membership option for guests wishing to become WMM Members. Visit our
Membership
page to learn more about this discounted membership option.
Free admission is offered to caregivers accompanying an individual with disabilities. Please let Front Desk staff know upon your arrival so they can apply the discount to your admission.
