Frequently Asked Questions about HyFlex
Is there any in-person attendance required?
No, it is not required. Students have the option to attend each class period
in-person during the scheduled class time
online during the scheduled class time, or
online outside of the scheduled class time
If I can’t attend in person nor online for the Zoom meeting, can I still access the
lectures?
Yes, you can. You can access recorded lectures and complete coursework by the deadlines
set by the instructor.
Where do I access the class online?
CBC uses Zoom as the primary platform for online classes. Please refer to the course
Canvas page for more information provided by each instructor.
Can I attend any of the three ways any given day?
Yes. How you attend class and do the work is up to you as the student and can change
as necessary from day to day.
What is the difference between HyFlex and Arranged?
Arranged classes are fully online courses that have no requirement to meet up as a
class at any given time. The course is completely online with all information and
assessments done online.
HyFlex classes give the student the flexibility to decide how they would like to participate
in the course at any given time. Either by showing up to campus for in person, face-to-face,
by Zooming in at the specified time OR by watching a recording of the class. Both
classes require work and engagement with the course content online, outside of scheduled
class time.
What if I am only able to attend one in-person session the entire quarter?
How you choose to attend and engage in the course (face-to-face, on Zoom or online)
does not impact your grade. Read the syllabus carefully and understand the expectations
around activities, discussions, exams, etc. That make up the grading for the course.
Do I have to be on camera during the Zoom session?
You do not, however the benefits for both the student on Zoom and the students in
the classroom to interact and engage with each other is better when people can “see”
each other.
Do I need to bring my laptop to class if I’m attending in person?
You will want to check with your HyFlex instructor if it is not indicated in the syllabus.
Some may require it to do online activities in class and others may not.
Is this modality a good choice for me if I don’t have access to Wi-Fi?
No, it is not. This course will require online accessibility outside of the scheduled
class time regardless of if you attend in person (face-to-face) every class.
