Duke Children’s Hospital & Health Center is ranked among the top 50 children’s hospitals nationally in 10 specialties by U.S. News & World Report and provides care for thousands of patients annually.
The Duke Children’s Health Center includes specialty clinics, a pediatric endoscopy and procedure suite, a pediatric perioperative suite, an outpatient pharmacy, and the Jim Valvano Day Hospital for children and adolescents receiving chemotherapy and other outpatient infusions.

Duke Children’s Hospital is a “hospital within a hospital” within
Duke Central Tower
and
Duke University Hospital
. It contains pediatric and neonatal intensive care units.
The
Duke Children's Health Center
, adjacent to Duke University Hospital, provides an attractive, family-friendly setting for a variety of specialized pediatric services. It includes the Jim Valvano Day Hospital and dedicated cardiology, pulmonary,
endoscopy
-bronchoscopy and perioperative suites.
The pediatric emergency section of the
Duke University Hospital Emergency Room
offers a cheerful, child-friendly environment for a wide range of pediatric emergency and trauma services. It contains equipment designed specifically for children and includes 18 beds, two critical care rooms, and isolation rooms for children with infectious diseases.
In addition to Duke Children’s Hospital & Health Center:
The Lenox Baker Children's Hospital
is located one mile west of Duke University Hospital. It provides outpatient services for children with genetic, metabolic, endocrine, and neurodevelopmental disorders. Physical and occupational therapy services are also provided.
Three primary care clinics –
Brier Creek
Roxboro Street
, and
South Durham
-- offer preventive care, health care maintenance, diagnosis and management of chronic illnesses.

Outreach and Advocacy
As one of the largest charity health care providers for children in the Southeast, Duke Children's brings care directly to those who are often overlooked.
Our specialty outreach services include:
cardiology telemedicine program, which links Duke pediatric cardiologists with caregivers at community hospitals in North Carolina and Virginia;
collaborative center created by Duke Children Hospital & Health Center with other local universities to provide medical and mental health services for abused children and raises awareness about child abuse and neglect;
the Duke Children's pediatric HIV clinic, which has cared for hundreds of HIV-infected or -exposed infants throughout the region since 1986.

Certified Safe Sleep Hospital
Duke University Hospital, which includes Duke Children's Hospital and Health Center, is certified as a "Safe Sleep Hospital" by the
National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification Program
. The certification recognizes our commitment to follow the safe sleep guidelines recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the training programs we provide to health care team members, and family caregivers.
Center of Excellence in Pediatric Sedation
The Children's Procedural Sedation Unit is designated a Center of Excellence in Pediatric Sedation by the Society for Pediatric Sedation. This honor reflects the exceptional care our team provides to our pediatric patients. Only 10 U.S. hospitals have been awarded this designation.
