Christian Service Program
As members of the Bellarmine community, we are called to live according to a pattern of love and service modeled by Jesus Christ. We do this by tending to the needs of the poor and marginalized. Each student is challenged to use his critical skills to help bring about a more just world.
"Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you fed me, I was thirsty and you gave me drink. I was a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me. I was sick and you cared for me, in prison and you came to visit me. ...I assure you, as often as you did it for one of my least brothers or sisters, you did it for me."
Matthew 25: 34-40
Purpose
Service and service-learning are core to Bellarmine’s Christian Service Program. As a Jesuit school committed to Gospel values and faith in action, we believe hands-on service is essential to understanding social justice and fostering a personal commitment to justice.
A Commitment to Service
The Christian Service Program engages students in direct service with marginalized communities through off-campus, non-profit agencies. Service requirements vary by grade and must be completed outside of class time—after school, on weekends, or during breaks. The CSP office coordinates placements, transportation, and supervision. Completion of all service hours is required for graduation.
Service Learning
Service-learning connects classroom knowledge with real-world service that addresses community needs. This approach allows students to apply academic learning to meaningful experiences, deepening their understanding and personal growth. Research shows service-learning enhances both educational outcomes and the development of Jesuit values in our graduates.
