About
About
We believe children learn best in an inclusive, creative, and nurturing environment that engages the whole child. Students here are active partners in their education, and learning is joyful.
Academics
Academics
From its inception, Burgundy has educated children in innovative ways. Our students learn by doing. The school community and its two campuses offer a nurturing atmosphere that inspire creativity through the arts and develop critical thinking skills with an integrated curriculum and hands-on projects.
Admission
Admission
Burgundy educates children from Junior Kindergarten through grade 8. The admission process begins in the fall prior to the year in which a student enrolls.

Community
Community
Burgundy doesn’t just refer to our school or our campuses. Burgundy is a beloved community.
The Burgundy Difference
Burgundy Difference
The Burgundy community is united by its commitment to creating a learning community that affirms children for who they are and where they are developmentally and that helps all our students realize their full potential as students and as people.
Giving
Giving
The Burgundy that our students and families love and enjoy today is the product of a handful of families doing together what none could have done individually: purchasing land, rehabilitating and raising buildings, hiring a professional faculty.

About Burgundy Stables
Burgundy Stables is a riding lesson program developed to give local riders a more accessible option in the Alexandria and Northern Virginia area. We pride ourselves on our instructors, who each have much to give our riders, not just in the saddle but a continual focus on horsemanship and personal responsibility. We are excited to add this offering to the Burgundy family and look forward to offering quality equestrian camps and lessons to the public again soon!

Equines
Whizkey
is our oldest horse, born in 1999, and the longest resident at the barn. He is a palomino quarter horse gelding with a great sense of humor.
Toby
, born in 2003, used to be a wild mustang. He is a gray gelding who is always happy to have a little love in the form of itches. He is definitely not a wild horse anymore and is, in fact, allergic to many things.
Major
is our tallest horse. He is a chestnut gelding who is the great-grandson of the very famous racehorse
Secretariat
. Major was born in 2009 and raced when he was young, though he now enjoys a slower life pace.
Fiona
is a Haflinger pony, born in 2009. She is a palomino mare who is always looking for treats and attention.
Phoenix
is a Quarter horse cross, born in 2007. He enjoys bananas the most, even with their peels. He comes to us from the Manassas Battlefields where he enjoyed trail rides.
Felines
Salt, Pepper, and Sesame
are our barn cats and have been hunting mice at the barn since the summer of 2022. Salt prefers to talk to humans, whereas Pepper is more selective of her company, but has found friends amongst the wildlife, Sesame is still quite shy. Please use caution as these are working animals, not domesticated, and should not to be handled. They do however enjoy playing with string, an occasional petting, and take frequent naps during their breaks. This team previously worked on a military base, where they earned the respect of their peers, and have decided that joining us is a promotion in their respective fields. You will find all three working seven days a week aside from taking their cat naps.

How does the Burgundy Stables Membership work?
We offer weekly private lessons to our members. Each member is able to have a reoccurring time on a weekly basis for a lesson with one of our instructors. Members are responsible for paying a monthly fee of $255 and a separate fee to their instructor at the time of their lesson.
Members also receive access to our lesson scheduling calendar and are able to reserve extra lessons when openings are available, at which time they would pay only the instructor fee. Click

What is the Horsemanship Camp?
Horsemanship
Camp
is BACK for 2024 and registration is open!
This summer offering features the best of both Burgundy Stables and Burgundy Farm Summer Day Camp to create a well-rounded experience for your camper. This camp allows children to learn about horses in a fun and engaging way while enhancing their knowledge and skills around horsemanship. All levels of riders are welcome, from beginners to advanced. Throughout the session, campers learn all about the operation of a small horse farm, including the animals themselves, their care, and riding skills. Not to mention the dirtier but necessary horse-related chores of cleaning stalls, filling water buckets, and throwing hay. The horsemanship portion of camp runs from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the stables, followed by swimming and afternoon activities at Burgundy Farm Summer Day Camp from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Campers are responsible for providing their own apparel/gear, especially with helmets to ensure proper fit and safety.
Do you offer a family rate for multiple riders?
Yes, we do! A Family Membership is a discounted rate that must be worked into the schedule when joining.
Do you offer traditional boarding?
As a lesson-based barn, we do not offer traditional boarding; however, we are always looking for horses for our lesson program. We offer what we consider to be a free-lease arrangement. We have 6-8 horses at any time, and almost all the horses on our property are owned by other members and “free-leased” to us. We cover most care costs, including feed, farrier, and basic vet care. In exchange, we have use of the horse for our riding lesson program.
Can I host an event at Burgundy Stables?
At this time, we cannot accommodate birthday parties, group outings, trail rides, or group lessons.
