Well Visits For Newborns, Children And Adolescents
Well-Child Visits are doctor appointments to check on your child’s development and take steps to keep them healthy.
During a
Well-Child
Visit your child’s doctor goes over important information about their health, wellness, and growth. Your child will get a complete physical where doctors will:
Measure your child’s heart rate
Take your child’s blood pressure
Measure your child’s oxygen levels
Listen to your
child’s lungs
Look at your child’s eyes, ears, and throat
Press on your child’s tummy to feel their organs
Move your child’s
hips and legs
The doctor will talk to you about all of this, and make sure your child is up to date on their vaccines (shots). They might also ask you about what they eat, if they are active, and how they are doing in school.
Well-Child
Visits are a great time to bring up any concerns you have about your child’s health.
If your child is due for their
Well-Child
Visit, please make an appointment through the
LA Health Portal
or contact one of
our clinics.

3. How can I prepare my child for their Well-Child Visits?
Talking to your child about what to expect before the visit may help lower any fears they may have about physicals and vaccinations. Bringing your child to all their Well-Child Visits helps them get used to seeing their doctor and getting physicals.
4. Can I get an absence note or have forms filled out for school?
Yes. Your doctor and clinic can give you a note to excuse your child from school for the date of the visit. If you need proof of the physical or need any forms filled out tell the receptionist when you check in.
Schools and sports teams often require physicals and vaccinations to be completed to enroll students.
5. What can I do if don’t have transportation?
Your child’s health plan may provide you with free transportation to-and-from your child’s appointment. Please visit our
transportation section
for details.
6. Can I bring all my children in together for their Well-Child Visits?
Yes. You can ask that your clinic schedule all your children’s appointments on the same day. If there are open spots on the schedule, your clinic will fit them in.
7. How can I view my child's lab results?
You can view health information for children under 12 through your
LA Health Portal
