Specialized Cancer Care
Our oncologists work closely with surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, psychologists, rehabilitation specialists, and many others to provide complete care. We review complex cases at weekly tumor boards, where specialists across locations collaborate to develop the most effective treatment plans.
Cancer care at Nemours Children's goes well beyond treatment. We work with other specialists to manage treatment effects, including heart specialists, orthopedic specialists, and endocrinologists. Together we monitor things like heart and bone health and protect fertility. We help kids and young adults grow up as healthy as possible.

Cancer Survivorship Program
Lifelong support and monitoring to help cancer survivors thrive, addressing late effects of treatment, and promoting long-term health. Our team helps survivors transition successfully to adult care.
Advanced Treatment Options & Support
At Nemours, we know that every child's cancer is unique. Before starting treatment, we analyze your child's cancer at the molecular level to understand its specific characteristics. This helps us choose the most effective treatments with the fewest possible side effects.
Our team uses this detailed understanding to create precisely tailored treatment plans, identify promising clinical trials, and adjust care as needed to provide the best possible outcomes for your child. We offer:
Stem cell transplantation
Our advanced stem cell transplant program offers multiple options, including transplants using a child's own cells (autologous), cells from a matched donor (allogeneic), blood saved from umbilical cords, and stem cells collected from circulating blood.
Cellular therapies
We use leading-edge cellular therapy treatments to equip the immune system to fight cancer, including CAR-T cell therapy. We're at the forefront of developing new cell-based and gene-modified treatments to give each child the best possible outcome.
Radiation therapy:
Radiation oncologists use precision radiation therapy techniques specifically designed for children. We offer access to advanced proton therapy that targets tumors while protecting healthy tissue, image-guided systems for pinpoint accuracy, and specialized approaches developed just for kids.
Cancer surgery:
Our expert pediatric surgical oncologists perform complex tumor removal procedures using minimally invasive techniques whenever possible, with advanced 3D imaging for surgical planning and real-time guidance. We specialize in organ-preserving approaches that protect your child's growth and development while effectively treating their cancer.
Comprehensive Support Services
Cancer treatment involves much more than medical care. It's about supporting your child's whole well-being during their journey. Our comprehensive support team surrounds your family with expertise and compassion, such as:

We help you find community resources for your family. We also offer many supportive services, like social work, lodging at nearby Ronald McDonald Houses, creative therapies, pet therapy, Child Life programs, and much more.

We offer follow-up appointments through scheduled, live video visits. You can avoid waiting rooms and save travel time. Ask your doctor if this is an option for your family.
What to Expect
From your first day at Nemours Children's, you'll have an entire team walking beside you. While every journey is different, knowing what to expect can help your family feel more confident and prepared. We're here to guide you through each step, answer your questions, and provide the support you need.
To help you get started, we've gathered trusted resources about common cancer treatments and ways to support your child.
Chemotherapy
What it Is:
Powerful medications that destroy cancer cells or stop them from growing.
How it Works:
We deliver chemotherapy in different ways based on your child's needs, such as:
Through a vein (most common).
By mouth as pills or liquid.
Directly to specific areas where cancer is found.
What to Expect:
Treatment schedules vary. Some children need daily treatment, while others receive therapy weekly or monthly. Sessions can last from 30 minutes to several hours. Our team carefully monitors your child and manages any side effects.

Radiation Therapy
What it Is:
Treatment using high-energy beams to target cancer cells while protecting healthy tissue.
Types We Offer:
Proton therapy:
Precise beams that cause less damage to surrounding tissue; especially good for brain tumors.
Traditional radiation:
Carefully shaped X-ray beams to treat cancer cells.
What to Expect:
Most children receive daily treatments (Monday-Friday) for several weeks. Each session typically lasts 15-30 minutes.

Stem Cell Transplant
What it Is:
A treatment that rebuilds your child's blood and immune system using healthy stem cells.
Types of transplants:
Using your child's own cells
Using cells from a matched donor
Using donated umbilical cord blood
What to Expect:
The process includes preparation with chemotherapy, the transplant itself, and a recovery period of several weeks in our specialized unit.

Immunotherapy
What it Is:
Treatment that helps your child's immune system fight cancer cells.
Types We Offer:
Antibody treatments that mark cancer cells for the immune system to find
Checkpoint inhibitors that help immune cells better attack cancer
Immune system boosters that strengthen overall cancer-fighting ability
What to Expect:
Treatment schedules vary based on type. Most children receive regular infusions every few weeks. Side effects are often milder than traditional chemotherapy.

CAR-T Cell Therapy
What it Is:
A specialized type of immunotherapy that uses modified versions of your child's own immune cells
How it Works:
We collect your child's T cells (immune cells), modify them to better fight cancer, then return them to fight the disease.
What to Expect:
Usually requires just one main treatment session, followed by careful monitoring. Available for specific types of leukemia and lymphoma.
