Expert Intensive Care for Newborns
The Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) at Nemours Children's provide the best start in life for babies born too early or with medical problems. Our NICUs are Level IV, which is the highest level of neonatal care.
Newborn medicine specialists, or neonatologists, take care of babies around-the-clock in this high-tech unit. Pediatric surgeons and experts in every specialty have direct access to the NICU. If another hospital needs to transport your baby here, we offer critical care transport.
Our suites are family-friendly. They have whisper-quiet rooms for babies and private spaces for family members to sleep.
We understand that the NICU can feel scary. It isn’t what you dreamed of for your child’s first days or months. But our entire team is ready to do everything we can to help your baby grow strong.

We built our NICUs around what families need.
We’ll keep you fully informed and explain everything in plain language.
We offer the highest level of neonatal care.
At our hospitals, we provide care for the most critically ill infants, with onsite cardiothoracic surgery and neonatal extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) centers.
We can transport babies from other hospitals to our NICUs.
If your newborn needs to be moved from another hospital to our NICUs, our critical care transport team will spring into action.
We can help you plan before your baby is born.
We can work with you and your doctors to help diagnose conditions before birth. Creating a plan of care ahead of time is better for both the baby and the family.
