BRITAIN IS BROKEN
LET'S FIX IT
Welcome to The New Britain Project, an independent progressive think tank bridging the gap between politics, policy and practice.
Facing urgent challenges, Britain risks decline without embracing workable solutions that acknowledge the task's scale and constraints.
A Britain That's Got Your Back
We are launching a comprehensive programme centred around three core themes: rewiring the economy, renewing the social contract, and investing in young people.
Through rigorous research, practical insights, and public outreach, the New Britain Project aims to become an invaluable resource for government policymakers and front line decision-makers.
Our mission is clear: to provide the tools and knowledge needed to build a Britain that's got your back – a Britain that works for every citizen, leaving no place behind.
A different type of think tank
Bringing in fresh perspectives from the frontline of industry and public services
Female led
Guided by those with first hand experience of government
Be part of the conversation
Keir Starmer recognised the need for a total overhaul of the Labour Party to win back an opportunity to be listened to by the voters who turned away. It will take the same boldness to usher in the “decade of national renewal” he talks of.

The BBC Crisis: A reckoning for all
This cannot be another passing argument about impartiality. The collapse of trust in news is not the product of one edit or one broadcaster. Either we use this moment to put trust back at the centre of British media, every part of it, or we watch it corrode for good.
CAN ANYBODY HEAR ME?
Can anybody hear No.10? We checked. Most big government announcements are forgotten in a day.
The only exception to this rule is Digital ID - which peaked 50 times higher than most other announcements and is still sustaining interest 3 weeks on.
ATLANTIC CROSSING
The question is whether we can turn symbolism into strategy, and build a credible offer to the world’s best researchers, as a new Atlantic crossing quietly begins.
THE SOVEREIGNTY TEST
A reframing of the case for Europe -through the lens of greater cooperation as the only path to control and credibility across the four defining tests of modern sovereignty: defence, migration, energy security, and disinformation.
PERMISSION TO EXPAND
Permission to Expand sets out the case for scaling up the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) in state schools as part of a wider mission to rebuild pride, purpose and belonging among young people.
COMPUTER SAYS NO
This isn’t a headline grabbing crisis like NHS waiting lists or the housing crisis. It's by no means as important either, but it is a persistent problem that shapes daily life, testing our patience and, over time, eroding our trust in the institutions designed to serve us.
SOCIAL MEDIA
As MPs debate the Safer Phones Bill, our polling with More in Common for the National Education Union shows clear support for strong restrictions on the harms of social media, spanning Britain's political divides and with clear demand for action from both parents and young people.
DOORSTEP CHANGE
Our approach is rooted in one key question: what policies will people see, feel, and believe in? It’s about focusing on real-world changes that voters can experience in their daily lives - policies that demonstrate competence, fairness, and vision.
BROKEN BRITAIN
Our Broken Britain poll is one of the most comprehensive studies undertaken into the current depth of malaise among the British public.
MISSING MOTHERS
The New Britain Project, in collaboration with The MTPT Project, presents a groundbreaking report on the critical issue of teacher retention in the UK, with a focus on women in their thirties - the largest group leaving the profession each year.
BREAKFAST CLUBS
This report warns that Labour’s plan to rollout free breakfast clubs for all primary schools risks repeating the mistakes of the last government’s £1.12 billion National Tutoring Programme.
BROKEN BRITAIN INDEX
Four years after the Conservative Party promised to "level up" Britain's forgotten communities, our Broken Britain Index paints a stark picture of deepening regional inequalities.
