Lecture programme and extended learning
Our bespoke Futures Programme prepares students for life beyond St Mary’s Calne within our academic philosophy of ‘Win Your Own Race’. The programme combines Careers and UCAS guidance with personal development, ensuring each students feels supported as she begins to define her ambitions and explore her next steps.
The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) sits at the heart of this programme. Offered in the Lower Sixth, it provides the chance to explore a subject in depth, developing skills in research, writing and independent thought, qualities highly valued at university and beyond.

Supra curriculum
Alongside A Levels, every Sixth Form student takes part in our distinctive Supra Curriculum. This includes opportunities such as additional qualifications in areas like photography or Italian, and the Donaldson Electives with short courses spanning topics from cultural anthropology to British Sign Language.
As the most senior pupils in the school, our Sixth Formers set the tone, embodying curiosity, compassion and courage. They leave not only with excellent academic results – opening doors to places at leading universities and exciting careers ahead – but also with lifelong confidence, integrity and purpose.

Enrichment and university preparation
Enrichment opportunities are woven into Sixth Form life, including the Lecture Programme, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and student leadership roles. These experiences allow students to stretch themselves, discover new passions and grow in confidence.
University preparation is equally embedded in daily life. Tailored support for applications, personal statements and interviews ensures every student feels prepared, while the culture of intellectual curiosity encourages them to think critically, express ideas clearly and pursue academic interests beyond the classroom.
