MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — The MVNU Music Department ensembles will complete the year with a final concert on Saturday, May 2, at 3 p.m. in the R.R. Hodges Chapel/Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.
The concert will feature the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, String Ensemble, Flute Choir, Collegians Chorale, Una Voce Chamber Choir, and Treble Singers Women’s Choir.
A variety of music will be presented, and the concert will conclude with the combined groups featuring two pieces: “Hope for Resolution” by Paul Caldwell and Sean Ivory and “Lamb of God” by Twila Paris. “Hope for Resolution” was written to honor Nelson Mandela and F.W. de Klerk and combines the hymn chant “Of the Father’s Love Begotten” with a South African freedom song “Thula Sizwe.” The choirs reach back in time to perform one of the most inspirational songs by Twila Paris – “Lamb of God.” With our Easter celebrations still fresh on our minds and hearts, the stylings of renown composer/arranger Jay Rouse provide poignant interpretations of the moving lyrics culminating with “O wash me in His precious blood, My Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God.”
Instrumental ensemble directors are Dr. John Packard, Chuck Dettmar, Chris Japikse, and Jennifer Packard. Choral directors are Dr. Robert Tocheff, Dirk Eachus, and Sabina Anderson.
