The Regional Substance Abuse Prevention Consultant works with community groups, schools, human service agencies, hospitals, law enforcement, parents and youth. The purpose of this work is to educate communities about the risks of alcohol and other drug use and to reduce misuse among youth, young adults and adults through:

Community Partners
Lamoille County Regional Prevention Partnership
The Regional Prevention Partnership will provide five years of funding to our region.
Healthy Lamoille Valley
provides coordination of prevention partnerships in our community. The partnerships aim to reduce underage drinking, binge drinking, prescription drug misuse and cannabis use by promoting municipal policy changes, providing opportunities for education and providing referrals to local resources.

The North Central Vermont Recovery Center
is a non-profit corporation dedicated to the enrichment of the social and spiritual lives of those individuals and their family member who have been afflicted by addiction to alcohol and drugs. The center provides a supportive, welcoming, safe and substance-free environment for individuals and families on their paths to lasting recovery. We offer a safe place to stop in and visit, talk with a peer worker, use computers, read, attend meetings, groups, substance free activities and find community resources.

Behavioral Health & Wellness
Center
is an outpatient counseling service that also offers psychiatric and outpatient consultation services for those with substance abuse and other mental health needs.
Lamoille County Mental Health
provides individual, family and group therapy, medication therapy and support, emergency and crisis support, developmental, day treatment, housing, vocational and outreach services to individuals, families and schools.
Talking to Your Kids About Alcohol and Other Drugs
Using alcohol and other drugs in early life can have a negative impact on your child’s health now, and later on by impacting proper brain development and creating other risks. You are their #1 influence.

has tips on how to start and continue to have conversations with your children early and often, no matter how awkward.
Prescription Drug Disposal
Properly storing and getting rid of unused prescription medications protects your loved ones and the environment. Here are three easy steps:

LOCK
: Store your medications in a lock box or locked medicine cabinet.
2.
DROP
: Drop off unused medication at a kiosk or at your local pharmacy or police stations.

Coalitions use evidence-based/evidence-informed and/or promising practices and the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) process and model in this work.
