What Leadership Programs do for your Child?
Every summer, a group of Berkeley Hall middle schoolers participate in Leadership Initiatives at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. This immersive program brings together students from across the country to practice collaborative problem-solving and step into leadership roles. With only 10-12 BHS students attending each year, the experience is both personal and transformative.

How Students Lead the Way in Math
At BHS, we believe every student can succeed in math. In recent years, we adopted innovative approaches to help bring out that potential in our students with a collaborative effort led by educational consultant Kristin Hilty. Ms. Hilty visits our campus regularly and works with BHS teachers to strengthen and develop our math curriculum. She recently spent two days focusing on the Illustrative Math program we adopted last year and helped teachers find new and effective strategies to engage their students in math class.

A Commitment to Character
Berkeley Hall School uses restorative practices to support students’ academic, social, and emotional growth while fostering character development. Instead of relying on punitive measures, restorative practices emphasize repairing relationships, accountability, and community-building through approaches like community circles, restorative conversations, and making amends. These methods help students build empathy, communication, and conflict resolution skills, preparing them to be fearless scholars and conscientious citizens. Families are also encouraged to adopt these practices at home to strengthen communication, trust, and responsibility.

Why the Preschool to 8th Grade Model Works
The middle school years at Berkeley Hall are a pivotal time for students’ academic, social, and personal growth. In the supportive environment of a small K–8 school, students build confidence, develop leadership skills, and explore a wide range of passions through academics, arts, athletics, and extracurriculars. As the oldest students on campus, they serve as role models while gaining a strong sense of identity, resilience, and responsibility. This foundation prepares them to transition smoothly into high school, with nearly 90% of graduates accepted into their top-choice schools each year.
