About VSM
Vivekananda Satavarshiki Mahavidyalaya

Vivekananda Satavarshiki Mahavidyalaya was established in the year 1964 in commemoration of birth centenary of Swami Vivekananda. It was an outcome of a tremendous moral and financial support and farsightedness of some of the most sincere and enlightened local people. The college is situated amidst quiet natural surroundings in a small town called Manikpara, located between Kharagpur and Jhargram.
Vivekananda Satavarshiki Mahavidyalaya, has since its inception in 1964, tried to integrate itself as not only an educational institution to the relatively backward hamlet of Manikpara, but as a site of community empowerment through mentorship and guidance in various ways. Goaded with serious challenges of transport, the college becomes a vital point of access to higher education for the people of the Manikpara village and other smaller villages in the surroundings.
Starting its journey with approximately 50 students of arts stream, 5 teaching and 2 non-teaching staff members in two rooms of a local high school, it now has its own sprawling campus over 18. 86 acres of land acquired on lease from the State Government. Our college presently accomodates more than 1500 students enrolled in Arts, Science and Commerce streams, 51 teaching including full-time and SACTs (State Aided College Teacher), 15 non teaching staff members and 1 Librarian, who strive together to ensure that Vivekananda Satavarshiki Mahavidyalaya emerges as one of the best performing colleges in this region. At present, the College offers degree courses in 13 honours subjects and 14 general subjects.
In a world affected by serious climate change concerns, the college adopts it as a vision to present itself as a green campus to spread awareness amongst the local inhabitants about a possible future in which climate change could be answered by local solutions where educational institutions and inhabitants become equal stakeholders.
With post-Coronavirus scenario bringing up newer challenges for the higher education scenario in this country, Vivekananda’s perception of an education that its at once collective and centred on the community motivates us for a world fraught with greater realities.In future times, V.S. Mahavidyalaya hopes to be site of collective active association that secures the colourful multicultural reality of the Jhargram district, through education and empowerment.
In spite of several adversities and constraints, some of our students have performed remarkably well at the University exams, S.S.C.exams and NET and have also been pursuing higher education in reputed institute. Some of our students have been serving as faculty members (both full-time and SACT) in our college presently, a tradition we would like to continue in future with sincerity and confidence.

Dear Students,
My hearty congratulations to all of you for your success in the Higher Secondary examinations. This is the right time to think constructively about your future course of studies and career. I am sure you will be able to put in your best endeavors to fulfill your dreams. I, therefore, extend a warm invitation to you to come and join Vivekananda Satavarshiki Mahavidyalaya. Our college has already made a mark in the field of education, attracting students not only from Jhargram district but also from the neighbouring districts. It offers a wide range of subjects in the field of Science, Arts & Commerce. We have a team of highly qualified teachers, who are always ready to help the students in overcoming their inhibitions and deliver their best. The college has maintained consistently good results in the University examinations at various levels and many of its former students have taken up higher studies as well. Our college has the right academic ambience for fostering the spirit of learning in students. The college has four active NSS units that extend their activities to the soceity in many ways. The N.C.C. Unit of the college is one of the best in the state. Many of our NCC cadet alumni are placed in different sectors of defence of our country.
Our college also provides several facilities for students which include a well-equipped library, laboratories, wi-fi, hostel, canteen, gymnasium, playground, common rooms and many more.
The infrastructural facilities of the college are also regularly upgraded in keeping with changing demands. Hence, as the principal of this college, I have strong faith that our college has great potential to positively affect the lives of its students as well as the society at large. Vivekananda Satavarshiki Mahavidyalaya

Vivekananda Satavarshiki Mahavidyalaya was established in the year 1964 in commemoration of birth centenary of Swami Vivekananda. It was an outcome of a tremendous moral and financial support and farsightedness of some of the most sincere and enlightened local people. The college is situated amidst quiet natural surroundings in a small town called Manikpara, located between Kharagpur and Jhargram.
Vivekananda Satavarshiki Mahavidyalaya, has since its inception in 1964, tried to integrate itself as not only an educational institution to the relatively backward hamlet of Manikpara, but as a site of community empowerment through mentorship and guidance in various ways. Goaded with serious challenges of transport, the college becomes a vital point of access to higher education for the people of the Manikpara village and other smaller villages in the surroundings.
Starting its journey with approximately 50 students of arts stream, 5 teaching and 2 non-teaching staff members in two rooms of a local high school, it now has its own sprawling campus over 18. 86 acres of land acquired on lease from the State Government. Our college presently accomodates more than 1500 students enrolled in Arts, Science and Commerce streams, 51 teaching including full-time and SACTs (State Aided College Teacher), 15 non teaching staff members and 1 Librarian, who strive together to ensure that Vivekananda Satavarshiki Mahavidyalaya emerges as one of the best performing colleges in this region. At present, the College offers degree courses in 13 honours subjects and 14 general subjects.
In a world affected by serious climate change concerns, the college adopts it as a vision to present itself as a green campus to spread awareness amongst the local inhabitants about a possible future in which climate change could be answered by local solutions where educational institutions and inhabitants become equal stakeholders.
With post-Coronavirus scenario bringing up newer challenges for the higher education scenario in this country, Vivekananda’s perception of an education that its at once collective and centred on the community motivates us for a world fraught with greater realities.In future times, V.S. Mahavidyalaya hopes to be site of collective active association that secures the colourful multicultural reality of the Jhargram district, through education and empowerment.
In spite of several adversities and constraints, some of our students have performed remarkably well at the University exams, S.S.C.exams and NET and have also been pursuing higher education in reputed institute. Some of our students have been serving as faculty members (both full-time and SACT) in our college presently, a tradition we would like to continue in future with sincerity and confidence.

I am sure you will be able to put in your best endeavors to fulfill your dreams. I, therefore, extend a warm invitation to you to come and join Vivekananda Satavarshiki Mahavidyalaya. Our college has already made a mark in the field of education, attracting students not only from Jhargram district but also from the neighbouring districts. It offers a wide range of subjects in the field of Science, Arts & Commerce. We have a team of highly qualified teachers, who are always ready to help the students in overcoming their inhibitions and deliver their best. The college has maintained consistently good results in the University examinations at various levels and many of its former students have taken up higher studies as well. Our college has the right academic ambience for fostering the spirit of learning in students. The college has four active NSS units that extend their activities to the soceity in many ways. The N.C.C. Unit of the college is one of the best in the state. Many of our NCC cadet alumni are placed in different sectors of defence of our country.
Our college also provides several facilities for students which include a well-equipped library, laboratories, wi-fi, hostel, canteen, gymnasium, playground, common rooms and many more.
The infrastructural facilities of the college are also regularly upgraded in keeping with changing demands. Hence, as the principal of this college, I have strong faith that our college has great potential to positively affect the lives of its students as well as the society at large.
