Dr.Feyzullah Yilmaz
will join the department of humanities and Social Sciences as the BARD Fellow in August 2024. Dr.Yilmaz completed his PhD in Political Science at Sabanci University in Istanbul, Turkiye in 2016. In his dissertation, entitled Overcoming Nihilism Through Sufism: Muhammad Iqbal, His Philosophy, and Political Theology, Dr. Yilmaz analysed Iqbal’s philosophy within the context of and as a response to the problem of nihilism as it was debated in modern German philosophy. His articles were published by the Oxford Journal of Islamic Studies (SSCI) and Open Philosophy. Since 2018, Dr. Feyzullah Yilmaz has been working as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Sabahattin Zaim University in Istanbul. He will join LUMS as a Bard Fellow to continue working on Muhammad Iqbal’s philosophy and turn his dissertation into a book manuscript. He will also teach courses in political science.
In keeping with the BARD foundation’s support for academics working towards their PhDs,
Ateeb Gul
, a LUMS alum of 2009, will join the department of humanities and social sciences as a BARD Scholar. Ateeb is in the 5th year of his PhD in Islamic Studies at Boston University’s Graduate Program in Religion.
Ateeb Gul’s dissertation studies the various ways in which the categories of gender and nationalism illuminate South Asian Sirah literature in the Urdu language published between 1880 and 1980. Ateeb will work closely with colleagues at the department of humanities and social sciences while working towards the completion of his PhD. He will also teach during his time at the department.

Dr.Feyzullah Yilmaz
