Functions as a regular pay-as-you-go Ventra card during school breaks and on PACE buses
Not valid on Metra trains; PACE rides are full fare
Full-time (12+ credits)
Traditional undergraduate (not School of Professional Studies)
Fee: $150 per semester, billed to your student account once you opt in (non-refundable, no pro-rating)
Replacement fee: $50 per card (one replacement allowed per academic year)
Changes to enrollment within the first 45 days may affect your U-Pass. Updates can take 3–10 business days.
Opt in
Eligible students receive an email at the start of each fall and spring term.
Returning students’ existing cards are reactivated; no new card is printed.
Photo & ordering
Returning students: North Park uses the photo from your student ID.
New students: After opting in, your card is ordered from Ventra.
Pick up
You’ll receive an email when your card is ready.
Bring a photo ID and your North Park student ID number to pick it up.
Activate and register
Activate by phone
optional online registration
lets you track usage (no credit card required).
Tap to ride
Remove the card from your wallet and tap the Ventra logo at the turnstile or bus reader.
Watch the screen to confirm it registers as a U-Pass transaction.
Keep your card
Cards are valid for five years—do not throw it away, even if you take a semester off.
Lost, stolen, or damaged card
Bring your student ID and $50 to the Campus Safety/Information Center.
A replacement takes about 7 business days.
Card not working
Check that you remain a full-time student (12+ credits).
Log in at
ventrachicago.com
to confirm U-Pass status or balance.
If you suspect a defective card, visit the Ventra Customer Service Center (165 N. Jefferson).
Negative balance
Using the card when not eligible, double-tapping, or paying for a guest can cause a negative balance.
Add funds online to bring the balance back to $0 or more. North Park cannot adjust balances.
Non-transferable: Your photo and CTA ID are on the card. Lending or selling it may lead to confiscation and university disciplinary action.
Between semesters: Add money if you want to keep riding as a standard Ventra card.
PACE buses: Pay full fare with added funds; U-Pass discounts don’t apply.
