Where You’ll Train
NECO is firmly dedicated to its community-based clinical training model. This model comes with a commitment to creating an extensive network of clinical sites that provide experiences with varied patient and clinical conditions, clinic models, and diverse communities.
With community-based clinic sites, you’ll be able to develop critical skills and understanding of cross-cultural competence and social determinants of health.
A national role model in clinical education
The set of clinical training sites provide exposure to a multitude of systems, conditions, and collaborative care relationships in the healthcare system.
Clinical Training Center
We believe allowing students to train with a variety of systems and tools allows them to become agile in their approach and better prepared to integrate new innovations in optometry in the future.

Community-based Clinics
We believe that for students to become great clinicians, they have to understand the communities they’re working in. As a national role model in community-based clinical training programs, students gain deep experience providing eye care in community health centers.
Training Sites

Clinical Training in Action
NECO students are exposed to clinical training within their first year of school. They have the opportunity to explore and determine their own unique interests from many clinical experiences throughout their four years.
From the first month as a student, you will help provide vision screenings to kids in area schools.
NECO has extensive partnerships that provide care to many special needs, elderly, and homeless individuals. Students can take part in training at these centers.
A student learns about new kinds of eyewear for infants that are more comfortable and easier to fit.
Learning how to use the OCT and read the retinal images is part of the instruction.
Digital and traditional phoropters are in the Clinical Training Center so that students are prepared to practice on many types of equipment.
Clinical faculty are hands-on in teaching and getting students acquainted with each community health center's clinic systems and procedures.
Students first learn the skills in pre-clinic training.
New and soon-to-market equipment rotates through the Clinical Training Center so that students can learn on the latest and also provide feedback on its use.
Our Clinical Training Center has 20 exam lanes, 2 teaching labs, and 4 special testing environments for new-to-market equipment.
Faculty watch the progress and practices of students as part of the teaching process.
Special labs and courses provide microsurgical, laser, and Intense Pulsed Light training.
