Letter from the President
Welcome to College of the Mainland (COM). Whether you're beginning your college experience,
returning to pursue a new goal, or exploring opportunities to grow professionally,
we're honored to be part of your journey.
At COM, we believe in the life-changing power of education. We see it every day in
our classrooms, in our community and in the lives of students who go on to support
their families, launch meaningful careers and give back to the region we proudly serve.
What truly sets COM apart is the people. Our faculty and staff are second to none.
Many live and work right here in our community, and they care deeply about the success
of every student who walks through our doors. They bring a rare combination of expertise,
compassion and high expectations, treating every student like a member of their own
family.
Affordability is a priority, not just a promise. COM offers a flat-rate tuition that
hasn’t increased in over a decade because we believe access to education should never
be out of reach. We also proudly offer the COM Promise Scholarship, which provides
recent high school graduates in Texas City, La Marque, Hitchcock and Santa Fe with
the opportunity to attend college tuition-free for up to two years.
We are equally committed to providing the support students need to thrive. From career
services and tutoring to our Community Resource Center and personalized advising,
we surround our students with care and guidance at every step. Our 8-Week Advantage
course model allows students to focus on fewer classes at a time while staying on
track to graduate. And through the use of our comprehensive, career-focused Guided
Pathways framework, students follow a clear plan that outlines exactly which courses
to take and when. This approach removes the guesswork, saves time and money and helps
students stay on track to graduate or launch a career.
We are proud of our roots and excited about the future. Our 2024–2027 Strategic Plan
is focused on student achievement, employee excellence, safe and modern campus spaces
and meaningful community partnerships. These priorities are not just words. They are
the foundation of everything we do.
Thank you for choosing COM. We’re ready to meet you where you are, walk beside you
as you grow and celebrate every milestone you reach. I invite you to discover what’s
possible here and to believe in the future you’re building.
