What is the BASE Program?
Building and Supporting Excellence
BASE helps you find your way, make connections and builds an academic foundation.
BASE is free summer program offered to students on an invite-only basis to get a jump-start on your college experience at Wingate. You'll connect with faculty and peers, identify your interests and strengths and familiarize yourself with campus...all while earning six credit hours and getting to move in early! The 2026 BASE Program will take place from
July 6 through July 31
, with a tentative move-in date of
Monday, July 6
.

Who can apply?
When I applied for summer housing, it listed a charge. Do I pay this?
Do I need to buy any books or materials for the program?
Do I still need to attend orientation before the program begins?
Do I need to bring extra money/food?
What do I need to bring for my room? What items are prohibited?
What type of activities should I expect?
Where can I find information on specific program details?
Admitted students will receive an invitation if they are eligible for BASE. Contact the Director,
Dr. Chelsea Kaufman
, if you would like her to review your eligibility.
The BASE program will pay for the housing during the summer II session. If you are staying in transition housing between summer II and the fall semester, however, you will be responsible for arranging for and paying for that.
No, these will be provided on Canvas (the website we use for our courses) or you will be able to borrow a copy for the summer. These will be provided when you arrive.
No, we will have a brief orientation session for families on the move in day and students will attend orientation as part of the program.
Throughout the week, meals at the Wingate cafeteria will generally be provided and paid for by the BASE program. We will also provide food, admission tickets, and transportation for any off-campus activities. However, you may still want to bring money and/or purchase some food if you want to buy any extras such as being able to have snacks for your room, go get a coffee, etc. while you are here.
Check out the FAQs and Policies for housing on
this page.
