The Global Monitoring Laboratory participates in a variety of internship programs and has hosted interns from various backgrounds. We look to provide career opportunities for the next generation workforce and encourage members of all backgrounds to apply.
Summer Internship Opportunities
Typical summer internships at the Global Monitoring Laboratory are full-time for 10 weeks between June and August. Potential programs include:
The William M. Lapenta NOAA Student Internship Program
(Lapenta): NOAA is offering paid summer internships targeted towards current 2nd and 3rd-year undergraduate and enrolled graduate students to work in areas that will provide robust research and/or operational experience that will prepare the student for further study in NOAA fields, for application to fellowships or for the NOAA-mission workforce.
Significant Opportunities in Atmospheric Research and Science
(SOARS): Significant Opportunities in Atmospheric Research and Science (SOARS) is an undergraduate-to-graduate bridge program designed to broaden the participation of historically underrepresented communities in the atmospheric and related sciences.
NOAA Experiential Research and Training Opportunities
(NERTO): NERTOs increase the number of Cooperative-Science-Center-supported students who participate in meaningful NOAA mission-aligned science, technology, engineering, mathematics, policy, natural resource management, and social science research and training at NOAA facilities and earn NOAA mission-aligned postsecondary degrees.
The Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship
increases undergraduate training in oceanic and atmospheric science, research, technology, and education and fosters multidisciplinary training opportunities while inviting recruitment and preparation of students for public service careers with NOAA.
Pathways Program - Student Internships
: Eligible undergraduate interns may be converted to a permanent federal position within a defined timeframe upon successful completion of the program that combines education and work experience.
Other Student Opportunities
NOAA provides a wide range of educational opportunities for students.
The Educational Partnership Program with Minority-Serving Institutions
works to increase the number of students from underrepresented communities, who are educated, trained, and graduated in fields that directly support NOAA's mission. Opportunities are available at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
The John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship
provides a unique educational experience to graduate students having an interest in ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes resources and in national policy decisions affecting those resources.
CIRES Opportunities
: Undergraduate and graduate students at CU schools can be hired part-time during the school year or full-time interns during the summer. These internships are available depending on the mentorship availability and qualifications of the candidates.
