GMMB Governing Board Inaugurated to Strengthen Leadership in Heritage Preservation – Ghana Museums and Monuments Board

Accra, November 19, 2025
— The Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB) is pleased to announce the inauguration of its Governing Board by the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts,
Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie
, at a ceremony held in the Ministry’s conference room in Accra.
In her address, the Minister emphasized the importance of the Board’s role in providing
strategic leadership
, strengthening institutional accountability, and advancing the national agenda for cultural preservation and creative sector development. She noted that the inauguration—described as long overdue—marks a significant step toward reinforcing the governance and operational capacity of the institution.
Hon. Gomashie expressed appreciation to the newly appointed Board members for accepting the call to serve and urged them to uphold the highest standards of
integrity, professionalism, and national service
. She outlined the core responsibilities of the Board, including:
Aligning GMMB programmes with national priorities
Promoting transparency and good governance
Ensuring efficient and effective resource management
Building strong partnerships with stakeholders across the heritage and creative sectors
She further conveyed confidence in the expertise and calibre of the appointed members and extended gratitude to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama for approving the nominations. Declaring the Board duly inaugurated, the Minister reaffirmed that the effectiveness and sustainability of GMMB depend on the quality of leadership provided by its Governing Board.
Responding on behalf of the Board, the Chairperson,
Mr. Michael Attipoe
, described the appointment as an honour, acknowledging that many qualified Ghanaians could have been chosen to serve. He pledged the Board’s collective commitment to fulfilling its mandate and supporting the long-term vision of GMMB.
The ceremony also included the swearing-in of the Chairperson of the Creative Arts Agency Board,
Mr. Anthony Obeng Afrane
, who emphasized that his appointment represents a responsibility to advance the interests of Ghanaian artists and to strengthen the broader creative ecosystem.
