The project aspires to understand oxidative stress from smoking. Smoking is thought to cause a large increase in direct oxidative stress but also in chronic inflammation which produces a distinct form of oxidative stress. Researchers will look at a new marker in the blood of non- and active-smokers to measure the two oxidative stresses. It is important to know exactly how much each source of oxidative stress contributes to be able to reduce the damaging effect of smoking on the human body.
