HIV 101: What is HIV and AIDS?
Carrying on the Legacy of Ryan White...
Ryan White was a teenager from Indiana who contracted HIV/AIDS through a blood transfusion for hemophilia in the early 1980’s. He became a nationally known figure after his school barred him from attending classes due to his diagnosis of AIDS. At that time, AIDS was largely stigmatized and misunderstood. Ryan White’s visibility shined a light on AIDS patients and helped start conversations about the virus, in turn helping the public gain more information and a better understanding. The gradual result of Ryan’s influence has been more compassion for those who have contracted the virus, and less shame and fear around AIDS prevention, HIV testing, and around getting treatment.
At MCHC, we are proud to be doing our part to continue what Ryan White’s legacy started by offering help, hope and healing for HIV and AIDS patients. Please contact us if you are seeking comprehensive, compassionate HIV Care.
