Strong Women, Strong Community: International Women’s Day at Nazareth
At Nazareth, the women in our community play a powerful role in shaping who we become. From teachers to mentors to students and staff, their leadership, compassion and resilience inspire others every day. International Women’s Day is an opportunity to recognise the many ways that women, and women in our Nazareth community support, encourage and uplift those around them.
We were lucky enough to hear from 6 members of our community about the differences that they make in the lives of others.
Jill
is one of Nazareth’s first ever Wise Owl’s. From what began as a small monthly book club at Nazareth’s Findon Campus in 2006, the Wise Owl program has now grown into a vibrant social network with activities from morning tea to exercise classes and group outings. Jill has formed deep, lasting connections through the Wise Owls. “We have fun- we can be silly together,” she says. Now, a part of the organising committee, Jill is passionate about extending the same sense of belonging she found to new members. She hopes others will experience the connection, laughter and support that helped her fill a very necessary gap in her own life.
Khushmeet
is a Year 10 student who uses her voice to speak on matters that are important to her. Her advocacy was recognised when she was awarded a Governor’s Civic Award at the end of 2025. As part of this process, students were asked to make a presentation about issues affecting their society and community. Khushmeet pointed out some key issues that were important to her, along with some suggested solutions. Khushmeet says that winning the award helped her to realise that “my voice mattered”.
Dianne
or Di, as many know her, is one of our amazing Nazareth ESO’s. Additional to her role at Nazareth, she has run a weekly program for 20 years as a volunteer. More than 50 people attend her Saturday program each week, from school aged to elderly who have a range of disabilities, both intellectual and physical. “I get as much out of it as they do,” she says. Each week Di arranges fun games and activities, but more importantly, provides a space for connection.
Eva
is a Nazareth parent who helps others through her work. She discovered how meaningful this support could be when she noticed the relief people felt once they had someone beside them to guide and reassure them during challenging times. By offering steady encouragement and practical help, Eva enables women to regain confidence and a sense of direction. Many later tell her, “I don’t know how I would have made it through without you,” reminding Eva that her support truly makes a difference.
Nicole
graduated from Nazareth in 2014. At 21 years old she moved to the remote APY lands, where she is now a Principal. Since working remote, she’s found that listening and sharing her voice has hugely expanded her perspective. “I feel a stronger sense of purpose, passion and belonging every year I’ve worked here!” Nicole shares. In her various leadership roles, she has seen Aṉangu girls and young women become “curious, confident and deeply proud of their culture,” reminding her how fortunate we are to have ownership of our futures.
Francy
is a Nazareth staff member. After being diagnosed with MS 7 years ago, she turned adversity into opportunity. Creating an award-winning inclusive tennis program, Francy devotes much of her time to providing a space for those with a disability to get involved in sport. In 2024, Francy won the MS Society’s highest honour, the Renee Thonard award, for her ongoing advocate and volunteer work for the MS Society. Francy works hard on “strengthening the representation and inclusion of people with disabilities.”
International Women’s Day reminds us that leadership takes many forms. It can be found in the courage to speak up, the determination to pursue new opportunities, and the kindness shown in everyday actions.

Strong Women, Strong Community: International Women’s Day at Nazareth
At Nazareth, the women in our community play a powerful role in shaping who we become. Jill
