Kids' Muscle, Joint, and Autoimmune Experts
Pediatric rheumatologists diagnose and treat conditions that involve joints, muscles, skin, and other areas. Some of these conditions are called “autoimmune diseases” because the immune system accidentally attacks the body’s own tissues or organs. Our doctors are experts at treating juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). JIA can cause pain, swelling, and stiffness, or affect kids’ eyes and skin.
Besides treating childhood arthritis, we also treat lupus, Lyme disease, and conditions that cause fever and pain. Some of these conditions are chronic. Others go away after treatment, or as children get older.
Pediatric rheumatology isn’t the same as adult rheumatology because children’s bodies are growing and changing. Plus, kids have different social and emotional challenges that only a pediatric team can address. Our hospitals in Florida and Delaware share data and work together to provide the best care. Wherever you go, we’ll create a plan for your child to grow and thrive.

We handle complex cases.
It can be difficult to diagnose and treat some rheumatic conditions. That’s why our pediatric rheumatologists work with other Nemours specialists to make sure we tackle all your child’s symptoms.
We help families manage symptoms.
No matter the diagnosis, you’re never alone. When you’re here getting treatment, we’ll keep your child as comfortable as possible.
We’re always learning more about childhood arthritis.
The Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Alliance collects information from doctors and their patients. Being part of this alliance helps answer questions, allows our doctors to learn from other doctors, and creates research opportunities.
We set a goal of remission, and hold ourselves accountable.
We have a cross-campus improvement network where our pediatric rheumatologists and patients set goals and ways to meet them. For kids with JIA, remission and inactive disease is always the target.
