Accommodation Guarantee

Accommodation Guarantee
Coming to university is an exciting time but moving to an unfamiliar city can be a daunting experience. We aim to take some of the stress out of the process by offering our Accommodation Guarantee.
We can guarantee you accommodation so long as:
you are a
new
student about to start your first year of an undergraduate or postgraduate taught course
you have applied as a single student (not as a couple or family)
if you are an undergraduate:
you have made us your 'firm' choice university and have applied for a full year's accommodation by noon on 24 July 2026 and;
you hold an unconditional firm offer by 17 August 2026
if you are a postgraduate taught student, you have applied for accommodation and hold an unconditional firm offer by 30 June 2026
The guarantee is an offer of a room in University-owned or managed partnership accommodation. We strive to match you with your chosen accommodation, but this isn't always possible due to the popularity of some residences. We appreciate your understanding that our guarantee is of a room, not one you have chosen.
Exclusions
Not all applicants are covered by our guarantee. You are not guaranteed accommodation if:
you are a part-year student
you apply through Clearing or you are an insurance applicant
you do not intend to live in the accommodation for the full academic year
you require couple or family accommodation
you suspended your studies after the first term in a previous year
you did not meet the deadlines set out in the guarantee
Part-year students
Part-year students aren't guaranteed accommodation, but we still recommend that you apply and we'll try to offer you a room if possible. The way to apply will depend on your exchange programme, so we recommend you
check our webpages
for specific information.
Couples and families
Couples and families aren't guaranteed accommodation, but we still recommend that you apply and we'll try to offer you accommodation.
You can apply by submitting an application in the
Accommodation Portal
, where you’ll pick one accommodation option. For couples, this is a two-bedroom flat, and families can choose either a two or three-bedroom flat depending on your family size.
We'll ask for information about the other members of your household, as well as your arrival and departure dates. We aim to process applications as soon as possible after receiving them, so we recommend applying as soon as the application is open - although we can’t process your application until you obtain your unconditional offer. Only one member of the household needs to apply.
Non-guaranteed
If you aren't covered by our accommodation guarantee, we anticipate you will hear from us by
4 September 2026
, or as soon as possible after we have processed all of our guaranteed applicants.
We'll still aim to offer you accommodation, but if this is not possible, we'll tell you as soon as possible. We'll collate availability from accommodation providers in Newcastle and we'll share this with you too.
