Lourdes Works Mentoring (Relaunch Coming Soon)
Have you always wanted to help students prepare to graduate and transition from Lourdes University into their career field? The project is a joint venture with the Lourdes University Office of Alumni Relations and Career Services. Identified mentors are Community leaders and Lourdes University Alumni.
The Role of a Community Mentor
The primary role of mentors is to share knowledge of their specific industries, provide perspective, open doors, and introduce their protégés to their organizations, networks, and clients (if possible). By blending a mentor’s experience and perspective with a student’s self-assessments and academic learning, the mentor provides their mentee with a unique opportunity to build confidence and talents for future advantage.
The Lourdes Works Mentoring Program is Not a Job Placement Program
A broader network of contacts, advanced career knowledge, and additional professional experiences will often be by-products of participating in the mentoring program. The experiences and knowledge gained from a mentoring relationship have often led to the increased employability of our students.
Students can request a mentor before graduation or until one year after graduation. If you are interested in becoming a potential mentor, please fill out the following form:
https://bit.ly/lwmentorsignup

FAQS
HOW CAN MY STUDENT GET AN ON-CAMPUS JOB? DO YOU HELP WITH OFF-CAMPUS JOBS AS WELL?
Lourdes University’s online board –
Handshake
– lists many internship and job opportunities both on- and off-campus. After students create a login, they can view job postings based upon location, pay and more.
WILL LOURDES HELP MY STUDENT GET AN INTERNSHIP?
Absolutely! Experiential education is important in supporting learning outcomes and gaining essential career experience. Lourdes’ online database systems of Handshake, Career Shift and Ohio Mans Jobs are just a few of the resources students can utilize to start their search. For more specific information, students are welcome to schedule an appointment with the Career Services Office.
WHAT CAN MY STUDENT DO WITH A LIBERAL ARTS DEGREE?
Liberal arts degree graduates are always in demand. Liberal arts programs develop valuable skills such as problem-solving, written and oral communication and critical thinking skills that are transferable and applicable to many work environments. Employers seek out liberal arts graduates because they understand that these graduates have completed a comprehensive education. Career Services staff works with students in liberal arts degree programs to tailor their professional experiences in preparation for their desired career path.
MY STUDENT DOES NOT KNOW WHAT HE/SHE WANTS TO DO. HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Most students begin their college career with unsteady plans for the future. Our office staff meets with students regardless of how far along in school they are. We discuss how their personality, abilities, values and interests can lead to a fulfilling career. We then work with students to further explore their fields of interest through employer contacts, job shadowing and information interviews.
Career Exploration and Assessment
Career exploration begins with career information. Choosing a major, pursuing an internship, attending events, and joining student organizations are all pieces of the puzzle.
Before jumping into any one decision, be sure that you know your options and a plan of action for your undergraduate years. Download the
4-Year Career Development Plan
and schedule a brainstorming session with your advisor or a meeting with one of our Career Services Team Members.
