Clery Act
As required by the federal
Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act
, colleges and universities in the United States must disclose information about crime on and around their campuses. The Clery Act requires colleges and universities to publish an Annual Security Report by Oct. 1 each year. Western's report can be found in the left menu under "Clery Act Info." In addition, the act requires colleges and universities maintain a public crime log documenting crimes occurring on campus property. The log should be accessible to the public and remain open for 60 days. Western's crime log can be found below. Reports 61 days and older may be requested by emailing
wiufoia@wiu.edu
.
2024 Annual Security Report
The
2024 Annual Security Report (PDF)
provides a comprehensive review of crime-related statistics for the previous four years for the WIU-Macomb and -Quad Cities campuses. This report also includes University policies on campus security, alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault support and other resources. A hard copy may also be viewed at OPS (Mowbray Hall) and University Relations (Sherman Hall 302).
Campus Crime Log
The crime log incidents posted may not match the crime statistics as reported in the Annual Campus Security and Fire Safety Report per the federal Clery Act, as the crime log is compiled using the Illinois Crimes Code and the crime statistics are required by law to be compiled using the Federal Uniformed Crime Reporting definitions.
According to federal law, an institution may withhold any of the required fields of entry, e.g. the nature, date, time, location and/or disposition, if any of the following conditions apply. Disclosure is prohibited: by law; would jeopardize the confidentiality of the victim; would jeopardize an ongoing criminal investigation or the safety of an individual; would cause a suspect to flee or evade detection; or would result in the destruction of evidence.
