Welcome to Boarding
We welcome boarders from all over the UK and the world. Our boarders enjoy a happy, safe and nurturing environment. Pastoral care is our strength, with a team of dedicated, non-teaching House Parents who give support and guidance to all boarders, and are especially vigilant to notice any signs of homesickness or distress.
At Longridge, there is a palpable atmosphere of “Family”, and this very much permeates all aspects of boarding life. There is a culture within the school and boarding house of mutual trust and support, with very positive relationships amongst the boarders themselves, and with staff.
The school ethos of educating and supporting the development of the “whole person” is very evident in boarding. There is access to all the school facilities in the evenings and at weekends, the Sports Hall being very popular, and the extensive grounds provide a marvellous inspiring and healthy environment for many activities. There are many opportunities for exploring new pastimes and developing skills with our program of Life skills, which all pupils engage with.
In boarding, everyone has access to the large, comfortable lounge area with TV, as well as the games room which has a pool table and table tennis. Rooms have recently been decorated and are single, or shared up to a maximum of three. All rooms have facilities for private study. Meals are taken in the main boarding common room, there is always a large choice of healthy main meals and desserts, plus fresh fruit, yoghurts and a variety of bakes. For boarders, there is supper served in the evening.
Boarding is never boring at Longridge! Birthdays are always celebrated with a cake and there are trips every weekend; perhaps a simple day out to the beach, or an intense, thrilling experience tubing on a lake, ice skating, go-carting, indoor climbing or the fun-filled trampoline centre. All activities take place under safe, licensed and expert guidance and supervision. Nearby we also have access to theatres, galleries and cinemas as well as Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh and the Beamish Museum. We make good use of the fleet of minibuses owned by the school. Boarders also enjoy frequent sorties to the shops in Berwick upon Tweed to stock up on essentials. Sometimes, the boarders will gather to do some baking, and enjoy the results!
Out of school activities are encouraged; we have supported our boarders in their individual pursuits of dance, or scouting for example in nearby Berwick upon Tweed and the whole school takes part in many celebrations and performances in the local community.
