Julia Faulkner has firmly established herself as one of the world’s leading voice teachers.

Her students are performers at the Metropolitan Opera; Teatro alla Scala; Lyric Opera of Chicago; San Francisco Opera; and the Berlin, Vienna, and Bavarian state operas, among other notable companies. Recently, her students have been finalists in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, Operalia, and BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competitions.
Since 2015 Ms. Faulkner has been director of vocal studies for Lyric Opera of Chicago’s Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center. She is a master teacher at the Santa Fe Opera’s Apprentice Program for Singers, a course leader for the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme, and a coach for the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House and the Harewood Artists at English National Opera.
Ms. Faulkner has performed on many of the world’s great opera and concert stages, appearing with Teatro alla Scala, Hamburg State Opera, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Staatskapelle Dresden, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, among others. She made her Metropolitan Opera debut in the title role of Strauss’s
Arabella
in 1994 and sang major roles for many years at the Bavarian and Vienna state operas. Other notable roles include Marschallin (
Der Rosenkavalier
), Countess (
Le nozze di Figaro
), Fiordiligi (
Così fan tutte
), and Ariadne (
Ariadne auf Naxos
). Ms. Faulkner has recorded for the Naxos, EMI, and Deutsche Gramophon labels. She joined the adjunct faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music in 2015.
