Lindsay Wildlife Experience Receives $50,000 Grant from Marathon Petroleum
Grant will bolster nonprofit organization’s public wildlife education and outreach efforts.
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — Lindsay Wildlife Experience has received a $50,000 grant from the Marathon Petroleum Corporation to fund a mobile nature education van that will connect Bay Area communities with wildlife.
“Marathon’s generous grant will help us further our mission of connecting people to wildlife and inspiring responsibility and respect for the world we share,” said Lindsay Wildlife Experience Interim Executive Director Karen Deshayes. “With Marathon’s support, we will be able to introduce our animal ambassadors and educational programming to new audiences and connect even more people with their wild neighbors.”
The grant allows Lindsay Wildlife Experience to broaden its outreach efforts and bring nature and science-based educational programming to schools, community centers, events and other public spaces across the Bay Area and beyond. The van will provide secure transportation for Lindsay Wildlife’s animal ambassadors to schools and other locations, along with animal husbandry equipment and outreach supplies.
The wildlife museum and education center was awarded the grant in August as part of the Marathon community investment programs, which provide financial gifts and other support to the communities where Marathon operates.
“We value our partnership with Lindsay Wildlife Experience and the inspirational work it does to connect people with native wildlife,” said Nichol Carranza, Community Relations & Stakeholder Engagement Representative for Marathon. “We actively make investments in our community by supporting organizations that protect, conserve and sustain our natural resources.”
Marathon Petroleum has awarded several grants to Lindsay Wildlife Experience during the past five years. They include a total of $66,000 for education and wildlife rehabilitation over a three-year period and a $25,000 donation toward the construction of the nonprofit organization’s Bald Eagle habitat.
