The Methodist Women’s Hospital level III Neonatal ICU (NICU) provides high-level care in a special environment for newborn infants with extreme prematurity, critical illness or surgical needs.
Depending on the level of care your baby needs, private NICU rooms are available to support individualized developmental care and private family time. As baby becomes more stable, they may graduate to a Level II NICU nursery to help with the transition of going home.

HeRO Monitoring System
Methodist Women's Hospital is the only hospital with the state-of-the-art HeRO Monitoring System in all NICU rooms. This innovative tool tracks the beat-to-beat variability of baby’s heart, giving advanced warning of infection, illness or other distress – before other symptoms appear. Studies show that HeRO can reduce infant mortality by more than 20%.
Integrated NICU
Methodist Women’s Hospital is the only hospital in the area that offers the integrated NICU model of care for mother and baby to recover together in the same room. This model of care is for babies who are stable enough to recover with mom, were born at 35-plus weeks and do not require respiratory support. While baby sometimes requires a longer stay than mom, mother and baby are often discharged at the same time.
The NICU Staff
A highly specialized team is here to care for your precious baby. Our NICU is staffed by some of the area’s most experienced neonatologists. These physicians are pediatricians with advanced training in the care of premature and critically ill newborns.
In addition to our neonatologists, the NICU is staffed by specialists in several areas to help with your baby's health, growth and development. They include:
Neonatal nurse practitioners
Neonatal nurses
Attending nurses
Neonatal specialists
Respiratory therapists
Lactation consultants
Registered dieticians
Pharmacists
Social workers
Chaplains
Cuddlers
