Meet the Dean
Brenda Ellington, Ph.D.
Dean, LSUA College of Liberal Arts
Brenda Ellington has dedicated an impressive 37 years to educating and mentoring students. A scholar in Rhetoric and Composition Theory with a focus on Early American Literature, African American Literature, and Linguistics, Ellington holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Louisiana Lafayette. She also earned a Master’s in Secondary Education from the University of Southwestern Louisiana and a Bachelor’s in Library Science from Louisiana Tech University, where she obtained certifications in both English and Library Science.
At LSUA, Ellington has held various academic roles and played a vital role in enhancing the LSUA Writing Center. Her leadership has been recognized through her appointments to the Mark Eugene Howard Endowed Professorship and through awards such as the 2023 LSUA Outstanding Service Award. An advocate for high-quality education, Ellington is certified by Quality Matters (QM) and is an active member of the Alexandria Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. She serves on the Board of Trustees for Kent Plantation House and is a passionate supporter of St. Jude Children’s Hospital, participating in fundraising events since 2019.

Lambda Pi Eta (National Communication Association)
The official honor society of the National Communication Association. It recognizes outstanding achievement in the study of communication, fosters professional development, and encourages members to explore the diverse areas of human communication.
LSUA Media Team
LSUA Media is a student-operated team that covers a wide range of creative works. The Media Team provides support to the Division of Strategic Communications by enhancing LSUA’s marketing and communication efforts. This program is a perfect environment of learning for students through use of expert knowledge, on-site training, and real-work experience.
Jongleur
The Jongleur is an annual publication of student work that is formatted and edited by a student staff. It is created for both the benefit of Louisiana State University at Alexandria and to project the voices of the students.
The Oak Leaf
An open-access, peer-reviewed journal that highlights undergraduate research. By fostering faculty–student collaboration and providing a platform for students to share their discoveries, we connect scholarship with audiences both local and global.
Sigma Tau Delta (English Honor Society)
Sigma Tau Delta, International English Honor Society, was founded in 1924 at Dakota Wesleyan University.
International & Multicultural Student Association (IAM)
The International Student Association (ISA) of LSUA is a student organization open to undergraduate students interested in global perspectives and cultural exchange. We aim to foster connections through campus outreach, engagement with the broader community, and various activities.
