Introduction
The Department of Studies & Research in Biochemistry was established in 2003 in Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa College at Cauvery campus, Madikeri, Kodagu district. It started with an intake of 14 post graduate students and presently the strength is increased to around 20 students per batch. Approval for intake of students for PG in the department is

. As on date, the department has produced about 275 post graduates.
In addition to MSc course, PhD programme too has commenced in the department. The department was shifted to a picturesque place namely Chikka Aluvara, in Somwarpet taluk of Kodagu district in January 2014. Six permanent faculties are working, and it is a full- fledged department now. 38 PhD candidates are in the various stages of their research.
