Modernising the National Construction Code
2026-01-05
Help shape the future of the National Construction Code (NCC). The discussion paper is now open for public consultation.
The Australian Government is working with state and territory governments to improve the NCC and the building regulations.
The Australian Government’s vision is for the NCC to underpin a streamlined, easy to use, and cost-effective regulatory system – while upholding high standards for building quality and safety. This will be backed by governance arrangements that are transparent, accountable and support productivity and innovation in our building and construction sector.
The discussion paper explores 4 key themes:
Governance and process
Complexity and regulatory burden
Useability and accessibility
Innovation and housing diversity
This work supports the Government's $45 billion Homes for Australia plan.
The project is being managed by the Commonwealth Government through the Department of Treasury.
