With small groups and a consistent team of educators across the day, each child is known and supported to settle in, form friendships and feel at home.
A supported space to explore themselves and the world
Our program is grounded in best practice for early years education—child-led, play-based and meaningfully connected to nature and community. Each day is a balance of group time and indoor–outdoor exploration, where children take healthy risks, ask questions and build confidence through hands-on experiences.
Learning through community
Preshil Kindergarten is fully integrated into the life of the primary school. Children take part in Whole School Meetings and singing, visit the bigger playgrounds and enjoy weekly specialist sessions in Art, Music and French. These are all essential parts of the rhythm of the week, helping every child feel at home in the wider Preshil community. From the beginning, children are recognised as capable, curious individuals with something meaningful to contribute.
Adventures in The Pines
Children spend time each week in ‘The Pines’, our beloved bush nook, where they climb, build and connect with the natural world. We light a fire and prepare a shared meal, care for the indigenous flora that we have planted, and spend time being inspired in imaginative play by the bush setting.
Transition to Primary School
Preshil Kindergarten children transition into Primary School gradually, through meaningful relationships and familiar spaces. They spend time with our specialist teachers and explore the wider Primary School grounds, so the environment and the people already feel known and safe.
Across the year, all kindergarten children participate in weekly sessions with our Prep class, known as The Lighthouse. They share time in the garden, classroom and in The Pines. With consistent relationships and familiar routines, the transition to primary school feels natural, connected and exciting.
Long Day Kindergarten Program
Our long day program runs from 8:00am to 6:00pm, with Primary School children joining Kindergarten students during extended hours, creating opportunities for multi-age play and giving siblings and friends time to connect.
