Library Automation
Library automation refers to the utilization of data processing machines, specifically
computers, to execute traditional library tasks such as acquisitions, cataloguing,
circulation, serial control, and other related activities. The Central Library of Kumaun
University has embraced this technological advancement by adopting various Library
Management Systems (LMS) over the years. Since 2007, the library has been utilizing Alice
for Window as its primary automation system. Furthermore, in 2020, the library incorporated
E-Granthalaya 4.0 LMS, which is hosted on the cloud and developed by the National
Informatics Centre (NIC) in New Delhi. It's worth noting that work is still in progress
concerning this system. Additionally, demonstrating its commitment to preserving historical
literature and making it accessible to a broader audience, the library has digitized 850
books published before 1950. These digitized books are now available for access at
dli.ernet.in, contributing to the digitization and preservation of valuable literary works
for future generations.
