Support and Encouragement
A mother's milk has all the nutrition a baby needs to stay healthy and thrive. You and your baby can enjoy all the benefits of breastfeeding, including a very close and special mother-baby bond. Regardless of whether a baby is fed by breast or bottle, we support your choice and offer various programs to help you get off to a healthy start.
Certified Lactation Consultants
When you and your baby are beginning breastfeeding, you both may have some difficulty. Lactation consulting provides a source of information and encouragement. They provide specialized one-on-one care and instruction to help new mothers breastfeed successfully.
Lactation consultants can provide:
Insight on whether your baby is getting enough milk
Education for nursing multiples or babies with special needs
Training on pump and milk storage
Evaluations for breast pain or infections
Outpatient visits in both the hospital and clinics
Lactation consultants are available to meet with you any time of the day or night while you are still in the hospital. After discharge, a lactation consultant will follow up with you periodically and offer advice and support.
Become a Milk Donor
Donor milk is a gift that will make a difference in the health of newborns. Milk donors must be in good health, currently nursing and able to produce extra milk. Potential donors must be willing to pump and store milk according to the guidelines established by the Human Milk Banking Association of North America (HMBANA). Donors must be able to donate a minimum of 200 ounces of milk.
If you’re interested in donating your pumped milk, please first contact the Mother’s Milk Bank of Iowa. Once you become an approved milk donor, you can deliver milk at your convenience to one of three milk depot locations, located at Methodist Women’s Hospital, Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital and Methodist Fremont Health.

Breastfeeding Boutique
The Breastfeeding Boutique at Methodist Women’s Hospital serves women throughout the greater metropolitan Omaha area with the tools they need to breastfeed successfully. Our caring and knowledgeable staff helps breastfeeding moms and moms-to-be with breast pumps, breast pump replacement parts, nursing bras and supplies to support and enhance the breastfeeding experience.
