About Vivekdisha
Vivekdisha – An ICT-Based Network
VIVEKDISHA, a unique service/outreach activity of the RKMVERI is an information and communication technology (ICT)–based network. It provides single window–based services like online classes for school students (from secondary or Level 6 to undergraduate level), online teacher training, spiritual heritage programmes and workshops to school teachers. During 2019-20, Vivekdisha served more than 16000 students through its multimedia-based interactive online classes which were held six days per week.
The regular programmes of VIVEKDISHA are run in about 25 remote centres and are monitored from the University’s expert centre at its Main campus at Belur Math, Howrah, West Bengal.
Ongoing Activities:
Online Classes for School Students (mainly for the students in the rural areas):
Subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Values Education, and Communicative English are taught for the students of class/level 6 to 12 mostly through multimedia presentations like texts, pictures, animations, real visual clips, video recordings from laboratory or operation theatres to make teaching-learning process effective, joyful and fruitful.
The medium of instruction is Bangla and English. Prior to year 2020, VIVEKDISHA also facilitated conducting chemistry and economics classes for under-graduate students from USA and UK.
Content Generation:
The contents of the multimedia presentations of different science subjects at the school and college levels were developed in Bangla or in English in order to fulfil the needs at local, national, and international (for Bangladesh students) levels. The content of the lessons was developed, based on the syllabi of the Boards of education of various states as well as the Central Board. Concept building and integrating different topics with the context of the lessons have been the main focus point of content generation.
Spiritual Heritage Programme for International Audience:
VIVEKDISHA fulfills the spiritual need of the devotees residing abroad by enabling them to log in to the online classes from their homes. At present bilingual classes on
Sri Sri Ramakrishna Kathamrita (The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna)
and
Srimad Bhagavad Gita
are conducted which people from United Arab Emeritus, USA, United Kingdom, Canada, and Germany attend regularly.
Values Education:
Students of various age groups are given presentations on the universal message of Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda, along with interactive discussions on moral and values education.
Preparation of Integrated Science Text-books incorporating Contemporary Research Findings:
VIVEKDISHA has prepared the contents for four books in Bangla which facilitates the building up of the fundamental concepts of science among students with an integrated approach, relating to various other subjects.
