Introduction
The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, established in 1988 offers a two-year Post-graduate course leading to Master of Arts (Journalism and Mass Communication) degree and Ph.D. Programme.
The department is the first to get UGC – Special Assistance Programme (SAP) grant and has completed UGC – SAP DRS, II phase. This has helped in enhancing the infrastructure of Computer Lab, TV Studio and conducting annual SAP funded seminars. Further, UGC has sanctioned Rs. 50.00 lakhs grant under SAP DRS III Phase which is yet to be released.
The department had the privilege of establishing an International Collaboration (MOU) for conducting an Academic Exchange Programme with Department of TV and Media Studies, Volda University College, Volda, Norway, which is the first of its kind in the field of journalism education in India. The Programme continued for nearly eight years. Faculty and students from both the countries produced collaborative TV programmes.
The department offers practical training to the students to bring out ‘Campus Courier’, a daily broadsheet and ‘MadhyamaMangala’, a practice journal and a video magazine ‘MCJ Round-Up’,on a regular basis.
