Applying For Accommodation
Clearing and Insurance
This page has been updated for the 2026–27 application cycle.
We want you to have a great experience living with us - and that starts from the moment you apply. If you’re joining Newcastle University through Clearing or as your Insurance choice, here’s how to secure your space.
When and how to apply
Applications open at
10am on Tuesday 18 August 2026
and
you’ll need to be a
firm offer holder
before you can apply. This can take up to
48 hours
after your offer is updated on UCAS - so plan accordingly.
We use an
Advanced Booking
system with live room availability, so you can see and reserve what’s available instantly.
To keep it fair, we’ll operate a queue for the Accommodation Portal. Anyone arriving on the portal before 10am will wait in a pre-queue and will be assigned a random place in the queue when booking opens.
You’ll see
real-time availability
in the portal. If your preferred residence or room type isn’t showing, it’s already been booked.
Room availability
Our accommodation is popular and availability is limited, but we’re confident there’ll still be some great options.
Available rooms might not be in your first-choice location, but all our undergraduate accommodation is close to campus and the city centre.
If rooms fill up, we’ll open a
waiting list
and let you know if spaces become available (for example, if someone doesn’t accept their offer, withdraws, or defers).
If we can’t offer you a room, we’ll connect you with
trusted private student accommodation providers
in the city and give you advice and support to help you find something suitable.
Frequently Asked Questions
I am a Clearing/Insurance applicant with a health need that impacts my accommodation. What should I do?
Accommodation availability
is limited
and we cannot guarantee that we will have a room that meets your needs
. Please complete and return a
Disability and Health Information form
as soon as possible. We will then assess if a specialist allocation
is required
. If so, we will attempt to find you a room suitable for your needs.
I have already applied for accommodation but I am now coming through Clearing. What should I do?
If you were a firm offer holder and reserved a room, but were unsuccessful, your reservation will have been cancelled.
If you then join us via Clearing and still need a room, please complete the form we’ll send you directly.
I am trying to register on the accommodation portal but I am unable to. Why is this?
You can register on the
Accommodation Portal
once your record has downloaded into the accommodation system
. This can take between 24-48 hours after you have added your Clearing course to UCAS and this has been confirmed by Admissions.
