The Hatch Project
Hancock Shaker Village provides schools in Berkshire County MA (within a 30-mile radius of the Village) with an incubator, eggs (laid by our heritage breed chickens), educational material, and trained instruction. Over the course of three weeks, the children in the classrooms watch the eggs incubate and hatch. Chicks then live in the classroom for about a week before coming home to the Village. In the process, the students learn about the hatching process of chicks, nature, a life cycle, and farming.

Please note:  We are not able to provide this program beyond a 30-mile radius of Hancock Shaker Village. If you are interested in hatching chicks but live outside of our geographic range, we encourage you to contact your local 4-H or extension service.
