Housing Policy
Unless otherwise approved by OCU in writing, a student who meets all the following criteria is required to live in University residence facilities as long as space permits in such facilities:
Full time; and
Traditional undergraduate student; and
Attending the Oakland City campus; and
Receiving any University funding; and
Does not qualify for the housing policy exemption.
A housing policy exemption is granted by the Office for Student Life to those living with their parent(s), court-appointed guardian, or who are married.
If a student chooses to live outside of university housing facilities the student bears responsibility to find off-campus housing.
Residence halls will open on the day preceding the first day of orientation for the fall semester. The residence halls are closed during the various holidays and breaks.
Oakland City University will not knowingly admit to its residence halls or other resident housing any persons who have been convicted of a felony, a sex offense, a theft, or other crimes against persons or property.
New and transfer students (including International Students) cannot move into campus housing before they are required to be here for testing. Returning students (including International Students) moving into campus housing early will be charged $40 per day that they moved in early. If more than 2 days early, you will have to stay in a local hotel at your expense. (Athletes need to speak with their coaches about when they are expected to arrive).
Housing Policy: University Scholarships and Financial Aid
Financial aid packages may be affected if the student moves out of a residence hall. In order to receive institutional aid (as distinguished from federal or state aid), a student must comply with the university’s housing policy.
Students who do not abide by the University Housing policy do not qualify for university funds.
Housing Policy: Criminal Convictions
Oakland City University will not knowingly admit to its residence halls or other resident housing any person who has been convicted of a felony, a sex offense, theft, or other crimes against persons or property.
Roommate Selection Process
The Director of University Housing works to provide every student with the most ideal living situation possible. The roommate selection process is designed to…
Pair students who have requested to live together
Match any student who is unable to find a roommate of his or her own with a roommate, based on similar interests, hobbies, or courses of study, as identified in the OCU housing application
Housing Information for International Students
All international students who receive a university-funded scholarship must live in university housing and participate in the meal plan.
All new student housing applications (including the $100.00 housing deposit) must be turned in to the International Admissions Office one month prior to the beginning of the semester in which you are enrolling. This is to guarantee that you will have campus housing upon your arrival. ALL applications not received by the deadline of July 20 will be placed on a waiting list.
