Founded in 1989 by a group of community members anxious to preserve the rich and wonderful history of the Lowell area, the Lowell Area Historical Museum’s guiding mission is: “to enrich, delight and inspire the public through the presentation and preservation of the Lowell area history”.
The Museum has been very enthusiastically received and supported by the community and has welcomed thousands of visitors since it opened.  Through its “Keeping History Alive” programs and exhibits, the Museum takes a very active role in developing and implementing innovative programs that “enrich, delight and inspire our community and visitors” with our rich culture and heritage.
The Museum is home to more than 25,000 photographs and artifacts that have been donated by area residents. This number continues to grow weekly, which represents a true investment by our community in the preservation of our rich and wonderful history.

250th Anniversary of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence
The Lowell Area Historical Museum and the Englehardt branch of Kent District Library announce a “Community Read” celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
We are supporting four books all based on the life of Paul Revere.
Participants are welcome to read any, or all of the selected books.
In April, we will have a speaker come to Lowell to talk more about Revere’s Life and role in start of the Revolution.
Copies of each book will be available to be checked out at the Englehardt Library.
On April 16, 7:00pm at the Vergennes Township Hall Gabriele Gottlieb, Associate Professor of History at Grand Valley State University will wrap up the community read with a talk exploring the life of Paul Revere.

The books selected are:

The Revolutionary Paul Revere by Joel Miller
The Ride by Kostya Kennedy
Who Was Paul Revere by Roberta Edwards
Children’s Book: Paul Revere’s Ride by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
